Oops... here's your book.

We’ve all been there. You’ve found a book that you absolutely love and treasure. It has its own reserved spot on your bookshelf where it sits for months until you decide to reread it and whenever you do, you’re careful not to fold the pages or remove the dust jacket, just to preserve its beauty and keep it looking like new.  One day out of your own good will you decide that you want to share your joy with a friend and let them borrow your un-creased spine, near-mint condition copy of your favourite book over the weekend.

“See you on Monday!”

The weekend’s over and you’re excited to find your friend so you can catch up with them and ask them the usual questions:

"So what did you think of the book?"

 "Who was your favourite character?"

“Did you see that ending coming?”

But for some reason they’re nowhere in sight… almost like they’re avoiding you. You finally catch them but they look nervous when you approach them, finally they hand you a book that looked like it just got ran over by a bus.

“Oops… here’s your book.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you ever had and Oops moment with a book, either on your fault or somebody else's? Have your ever borrowed a book for weeks, or months on end? Maybe it’s still sitting on your bookshelf. Did it fall down a well? Were you so engrossed in a chapter that you missed your mouth and spilled your breakfast on it?

My worst book borrowing incident happened when I fell asleep reading a book I’d borrowed from a friend. When I woke up it was so badly creased that it looked like I’d used it as a pillow. I did offer to buy her a new one but she told me not to worry about it. Talk about embarrassing!

Have you ever had an Oops moment?
