Oops... here's your book.

We’ve all been there. You’ve found a book that you absolutely love and treasure. It has its own reserved spot on your bookshelf where it sits for months until you decide to reread it and whenever you do, you’re careful not to fold the pages or remove the dust jacket, just to preserve its beauty and keep it looking like new.  One day out of your own good will you decide that you want to share your joy with a friend and let them borrow your un-creased spine, near-mint condition copy of your favourite book over the weekend.

“See you on Monday!”

The weekend’s over and you’re excited to find your friend so you can catch up with them and ask them the usual questions:

"So what did you think of the book?"

 "Who was your favourite character?"

“Did you see that ending coming?”

But for some reason they’re nowhere in sight… almost like they’re avoiding you. You finally catch them but they look nervous when you approach them, finally they hand you a book that looked like it just got ran over by a bus.

“Oops… here’s your book.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you ever had and Oops moment with a book, either on your fault or somebody else's? Have your ever borrowed a book for weeks, or months on end? Maybe it’s still sitting on your bookshelf. Did it fall down a well? Were you so engrossed in a chapter that you missed your mouth and spilled your breakfast on it?

My worst book borrowing incident happened when I fell asleep reading a book I’d borrowed from a friend. When I woke up it was so badly creased that it looked like I’d used it as a pillow. I did offer to buy her a new one but she told me not to worry about it. Talk about embarrassing!

Have you ever had an Oops moment?

  1. I'm not careful with my books at all, they always look worn - I think it's part of their charm :-) For the same reason, I never borrow books - I don't like being careful when I read ... and I like to eat chocolate while I read - ooops!

    1. Yeah, I'm quite reckless with books. :p I try to be careful with the pages but I don't really bother trying to not fold the spine. I also try to avoid borrowing books but sometimes friends can be really persistent.

I had an oops moment yesterday when I sat on a book and creased the cover. :o

  2. I try really hard to keep my books in good condition but just a little bent page gets on my nerves and makes me feel like I ruined the book. I had a book that I dropped my pizza on when i was reading it AND dropped in the gooey mud! I mostly read ebooks now, and its all good!

    1. Yay for eBooks! I love my Kindle, it makes reading so convenient, especially when I'm eating. Plus if you drop pizza on an eReader you can just wipe it right off. But I do still try to keep my books looking nice. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. In high school one of my friends borrowed one of my favorite books. She took it with her on vacation. Sadly, it was raining and she dropped it in a pile of mud! She felt so bad when she was returning it. In the end she bought me a brand new copy so I wasn't too mad...anymore. ;)

    1. Oh no, She must have felt awful! She's a good friend for buying you a new copy though.
